| The second day Mayra and I made borax crystals had a much better outcome than the first time. This time we did the exact same thing except we waited for the water to boil and added the borax then the food coloring. We did this to see how cloudy our solution was to see if we needed to add more borax because if we added food coloring first the water would become to dark to tell. The next day when we pulled out the pipe cleaners there were crystals covering all of the pipe cleaners, there were even crystals the formed on the side and bottom of the beaker! I was much more proud and satisfied the second time. Inward: What I contributed to get our desirable results were the materials and I was very persistent. Outward: My partner for this lab was Mayra and I think we worked really well together and we performed well. After the first time we wanted to both try again and didn't give up. Backward: At first we didn't get the results we wanted due to a mistake we made but after the second try we were very satisfied with the results. It worked really well, we got a lot more crystals than we expected. Forward: After the second time there isn't anything I can think of to get better results. If I were organizing a group I would definitely pick Mayra again, although we are friends I don't think we get distracted. We were both really focused and got our work done. Beyond: I think that when the borax molecules dissolved in the boiling water they then spread out and when the water cooled down the molecules came together and crystallized on the pipe cleaners along with the side and bottom of the beaker. Takeaways: One major takeaway from this lab was to only but beakers directly on the hot plate, of else the glass will crack and you will be left with a big mess. |
