Now that this project is complete, how do you feel about it? What things stand out?
I feel really good about this project, I am very pleased with the work we did and especially the quality. I am very surprised with the final product, it turned out better than i expected. Since i've never built a scratch rocket or don't know a lot about them I was surprised how well it is. What stood out to me was building it. We had to figure out all the measurements and had to keep in mind the weight of everything, which was a little challenging at first but my partners and I got the hang of it.
What, if any, science or technological things did you learn from doing this project? What is necessary to understand to build a successful rocket?
From this project I learned how to find the center of mass. We also learned how to find the surface area of a cylinder, which helped us come up with measurements for our fins. We also learned about the different fuels that we could use and how each of them gave you a differwnt thrust curve.
What, if any, metacognitive knowledge did you gain? (what did you learn about yourself as a learner - work habits, work ethic, tendencies, etc.)
I learned that I sometimes depend on my partners to do the things I struggle with instead of asking for help and learning how to do it myself. I will definatly work on that. I also learned that I can get caught up in my work and forget to document it.
How did you collaborate with others in this project? (Who did you work with? What did you contribute? How did you operate as a group or unit?)
I worked very well with my partners, Autrina and Elyse. I did a lot of the drawings and measuring when building along with taking some pictures. Whereas Autrina did the math, such as the surface area, and Elyse took most of the pictures along with helping build the rocket. There were times where we eached struggled but we helped each other out.
If you could do this project again, would you do anything differently? What advice would you give to the next class of rocketeers?
If I were to do this project again I would document more of our work and I would also do more research. Although our rocket did very well I think if we had done some research, such as what kind of glue to use and what kind of fins are the best, are rocket would've been better.
Based on your responses above, what advice or suggestions would you give to Andrew to help him design a better rocket project?
I would suggest doing a lesson on how to calculate the surface area and how that depends on how many fins to use. Other than that thats all.
